Muhanna Durra (1938–2021)
Muhanna Durra was a pioneering Jordanian painter and a foundational figure in modern art in Jordan. Born in Amman and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, he was among the first artists in his country to introduce Cubism and abstract expression into the local visual arts landscape. Durra’s work spans expressive portraiture and dynamic abstraction, using color and form to explore light, movement, and human experience. He also contributed significantly to art education and cultural institutions in Jordan throughout his career.
