Khaled al‑Rahal (1926–1987)
Khaled al‑Rahal was a seminal Iraqi painter and sculptor central to the development of
modern art in Iraq. Trained domestically and in Rome, his diverse practice merged
modernism with Mesopotamian heritage influences. He produced both monumental public
sculptures and nuanced paintings, becoming one of the most influential artists of his
generation in the Arab visual arts world.
